Hearing Nelson is a charitable organisation established in 1953 as a branch of Hearing New Zealand. We aim to improve the lives of those who are deaf or hard of hearing in the upper South Island through one-on-one support and services such as hearing screening tests, hard of hearing advocacy and public awareness. We offer flexible education programmes centred on proactive prevention of hearing loss for children and young people, and for community and industrial groups.
We support those in the community who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our membership programme offers a quarterly newsletter, discounts on accessory products, and free hearing aid cleaning services.
We educate the people of our community about noise-induced hearing loss and how to keep your hearing safe. A particular focus is reaching our youth to encourage early awareness and prevention.
We offer sales of batteries, cleaning and drying products, earplugs and assistive devices such as personal amplifiers, specialist telephones and alarm clocks.
